Project Proposal: To create an interactive clinic for addiction rehabilitation for those in their late teens to early twenties. This way they can learn to live with their "disease" rather than trying to fight it the rest of their lives. This center will help them transit from the clinic to real world experiences.
Precedent Analysis: In order to better understand the needs of the clinic, three elements have been analyzed: the culture, rehabilitation centers, and resorts. The culture plays a major role in this research because of the potential location of this project; therefore two different Native American tribes have been evaluated. Resorts help understand the procedures better because they are locations of therapy without the label "rehabilitation."
Building and Site Analysis: Within the heart of Taos in the historic district, the empty lot across from Harwood Museum will be used as the site. Also in order to incorporate the Taos architectural style, a pueblo home has been chosen and will be duplicated within the empty lot. This brings a connection to the community and a home like feature to the center.
Building and Code Compliance: A consideration of the construction codes is needed because of the region that is selected. Codes will follow New Mexico building codes. Because a residential home has been chosen, a consideration of the right codes for this design (recreation and rehabilitation center) has been considered as well.
Programming: The space is broken up into three sections: the rehabilitation center, indoor
recreation center, and outdoor recreation center. Here the two (rehabilitation and recreation) will help support each other within an interactive environment. The space will consist of both public and private areas, and many opportunities to interact with nature.

Design Concept: Derived from the definition of the Japanese word "komorebi," the concept of the filtration of light through nature has been captured within this design concept. Four elements of light (shadow, filter, sparkle, and and light) are brought together in order to conceptually design a pleasing and serene environment for this space.
Schematic Design: This section is an ongoing page for the space design of (re)Center. Currently the first step on blocking the space has been explored.
